Places Directory
. Places Directory is a comprehensive database of points of interest around you which the app pulls up based on your current location via GPS. This Droid app isn’t the greatest in terms of interface design or polish, but it does beat the other similar apps in terms of the number of places it has cataloged. Places Directory will find that small indie tourist art shop where Yelp or Where will fail. You have to narrow your choices by first picking a category (hotels, cafes, etc.) or using the search function.
Each point of interest comes with a rating and reviews, including the ability for you to add your own reviews. Results are ranked by distance from your current location, and also show a map of the location when clicked on. You can create favorites, though the value of this is quite limited since you’ll probably remember your favorite places instead of having to look them up on your Droid. Places also come with photos where available, and this can be quite useful in picking between different restaurants. Places Directory is a comprehensive database of points of interest and is an excellent location-based app for the Droid smartphone.
