JuiceDefender
JuiceDefender is one of the simpler Droid app – it lets you manipulate your Droid’s Wi-Fi and cellular data connection states so that they are only enabled at the right times. With JuiceDefender you can have your Wi-Fi and APN (cellular radio) connection only turn on intermittently to allow background apps to update their status and other Android services to poll their servers. It’ll also automatically enable the connections when the screen is turned on. At all other times you can have the connections turned off, and this makes a quite substantial difference in battery life.
There are plenty of more advanced settings that enable you to configure how you want your connections to work at night, when your Droid is being charged, or even based on where you’re located. The basic “easy mode” is quite good enough and it’ll help you save a good chunk of battery life without needing to do more than hitting a single button. The advanced features let you squeeze that last drop of battery power from your Droid on those occasions when you don’t expect to be near a charger any time soon.
